West Wittering Beach is easily accessible by car and makes for a great day trip from across the South of England.
From the north, follow the A3(M) or A27 towards Chichester. Once near Chichester, take the A286 south towards the Witterings. Continue through the villages of Birdham and East Wittering, following signs for West Wittering Beach.
As you approach, you’ll enter a narrow lane leading directly to the beach car park.
There is a large car park that can be pre-booked or paid on departure. Spaces fill up quickly, especially during weekends, school holidays, and warm weather, so we recommend factoring this into your journey.
Important Notes:
- Follow local signage and steward directions during busy periods
- Expect some delays on sunny days due to high demand
- Please respect local residents when driving through nearby villages

Regular bus services run from Chichester to West Wittering Beach, especially during the summer months.
Buses typically stop in West Wittering village, just a short walk from the beach. From there, follow local signage to reach the seafront.

- Services are more frequent during peak season
- Travel times are usually around 30–40 minutes
- It’s a convenient and environmentally friendly option
We recommend checking local timetables in advance, particularly outside of summer.
The nearest train station to West Wittering Beach is Chichester railway station, which is well connected with regular services from London, Brighton, and other major towns.
From Chichester, you’ll need to complete your journey by bus, taxi, or bike:

- 🚖 Taxis are available outside the station
- 🚴♂️ Cycling is a popular option via scenic coastal routes
The journey from the station to the beach takes around 20–30 minutes.
Cycling to West Wittering Beach is a fantastic way to enjoy the surrounding countryside and coastline.
There are several scenic routes from Chichester and the surrounding areas, many of which are relatively flat and suitable for most abilities.
🚲 Facilities
- Bike racks are available near the beach entrance and near the lifeguard tower
- We have a bike pump and a tool station located outside the lifeguard tower
- Quiet roads and designated cycle paths make for a pleasant journey
🌿 Top Tip
On busy days, cycling can be quicker than driving and avoids parking queues altogether.
