If you’re visiting us over the next few weeks, from 18th September, you might see some work taking place around the beach and car park.
Here’s what we’re doing – all part of looking after West Wittering Beach so everyone can enjoy it.
Returning Sand to the Shore
Wind can carry sand up to the very top of the beach, where it builds up over time and can cover paths or car park edges. A few times a year, we move this sand back down below the high-tide line, where it naturally becomes part of the beach again. This keeps access clear while returning the sand to the natural system.
Planting New Marram Grass
While we’re working with the sand, we’ll also be planting around 3,000 marram grass plants in a new area. Marram grass is brilliant at holding sand in place and helps the dunes stay stable and healthy – a simple, natural way to look after the beach for the long term.
Essential Power Supply Upgrade
We’re also installing a new power supply for the toilet block at the far end of the car park. This is an essential upgrade to keep the facilities running reliably, especially during our busiest days in summer. To make this happen, a trench will be dug along the edge of the field from the café towards the toilet block.
Please take care around the work area and follow any signs while this is underway.
Thank you for your patience while we carry out this work. Everything we’re doing is about keeping West Wittering Beach safe, accessible and ready to enjoy, not just for today, but for the future too.
